Challenge

The pandemic took the entire world by the storm when it hit. Contact tracing became the utmost priority. People were taken over by the fear of catching the virus. They felt threatened by the invisible enemy out there. It became necessary for public health authorities to backtrack the chain of people who were in contact with those affected by the novel coronavirus. Identifying challenges in contact tracing and encouraging engagement of the public with contact tracers to protect them from potential infection was the priority.

Research Insights

While contact tracing might help in backtracking the chain of people the infected person may have come in contact with, too many people to contact leaves health authorities with limited services.

Slowing down of virus makes contact tracing easier, so health authorities would have to jump back into it to permanently eliminate the virus.

Separating contacts from people who haven’t been exposed is critical to the success of a contact tracing effort.

Understanding how to inform others of a COVID patient or a potential COVID patient in their vicinity without revealing their identity is necessary.

Digital contact tracing helps in reducing burden on health authorities by allowing electronic self-reporting of cases and contacts.
